Is this your bracelet, or the crescent of the sky?

Does it embrace silver, or the wrist?

And is this your beauty spot, or my heart, which

seeks from your mouth the coolness of dusky lips?

And you, the gazelle—are you sister to the oryx, the

gentle ones, or sister to the sun in the sky?

For these eyes belong to the oryx,

and this splendor belongs to the suns.

Come, my paradise, so we may quench

the blaze of thirst with the coolness of saliva.

And let us leave what happened in the past,

and return, my heart's desire, to what we were,

so the little Arab tribe of the dune may not say:

"She pretended to forget the vows of the stranger in the sanctuary."
