يا فؤاد السمو أنت محمد
ماnot براcreated اللَهGod ماجداًa noble man منكthan you أمجدmore glorious
ما برا اللَه ماجداً منك أمجد
O Fuad of exalted rank, you are Muhammad.
God has created no noble man more glorious than you.
عادreturned عيدthe festival السرورof joy منكthrough you عليناto us
عاد عيد السرور منك علينا
ياOh فدتكmay they ransom you النفوسsouls والعودand the return أحمدmore praiseworthy
يا فدتك النفوس والعود أحمد
Through you, the festival of joy has returned to us.
Oh, may souls ransom you; the return is more welcome.
ونحرتand you sacrificed العناhardship بديلاًas a substitute منfor العيthe pale camels (first part)
ونحرت العنا بديلاً من العي
سcompletion of 'pale camels' فكانso was الثوابthe reward أسنىloftier وأجودand more generous
س فكان الثواب أسنى وأجود
And you sacrificed hardship in place of the pale camels;
so the reward was loftier and more generous.
زادكmay He increase you اللَهGod بهجةًin splendor واقتداراًand in power
زادك اللَه بهجةً واقتداراً
وافتخاراًand in pride بكلin every مجدglory وسؤددand noble distinction
وافتخاراً بكل مجد وسؤدد
May God increase your splendor and power,
and your pride in every glory and noble distinction.
أصدقthe most truthful of الناسpeople منthe one who يسميكcalls you للملfor the realm (first part)
أصدق الناس من يسميك للمل
كcompletion of 'realm' فؤاداًa heart وللممالكand for the kingdoms فرقدa guiding star
ك فؤاداً وللممالك فرقد
Most truthful is he who calls you the realm's
heart, and the kingdoms' guiding star.
والفصيحand the eloquent man الذيwho يسميكcalls you بحراًa sea
والفصيح الذي يسميك بحراً
مالهhe has no فيon ذرىthe heights of الفصاحةeloquence مرقدresting place
ماله في ذرى الفصاحة مرقد
And the eloquent man who calls you a sea
has no resting place on the heights of eloquence.
بحرهhis sea ماؤهits water يردis returned لهto it والand the
بحره ماؤه يرد له وال
تبرgold فيin راحتيكyour two palms لاdoes not يترددreturn
تبر في راحتيك لا يتردد
The water of his sea is returned to it, while
the gold in your two palms never returns.
أنتyou للجيشfor the army والصدارةand the grand vizierate والماand the royal chamber (first part)
أنت للجيش والصدارة والما
بينcompletion of 'royal chamber' درعٌa coat of mail وخودةٌand a helmet ومهندand an Indian sword
بين درعٌ وخودةٌ ومهند
For the army, the grand vizierate, and the royal chamber, you are
a coat of mail, a helmet, and an Indian sword.
أنتyou نعمhow excellent المعينthe helper للعاهلto the sovereign العاthe just (first part)
أنت نعم المعين للعاهل العا
دلcompletion of 'just' خيرthe best of الملوكkings مجداًin glory ومحتدand in lineage
دل خير الملوك مجداً ومحتد
You are an excellent helper to the just sovereign,
the best of kings in glory and lineage.
عاهلٌa sovereign شيَّدbuilt up الممالكthe kingdoms بالعدwith justice (first part)
عاهلٌ شيَّد الممالك بالعد
لcompletion of 'justice' وبالصارمand with the sword السنينkeen-edged المؤيدstrengthened
ل وبالصارم السنين المؤيد
A sovereign who built up kingdoms with justice
and with the keen-edged, strengthened sword.
ماnot ثناءthe praise of الورىhumankind عليهof him ثناءٌpraise
ما ثناء الورى عليه ثناءٌ
ذاكthat فرضa duty علىupon العبادall people مؤبدeverlasting
ذاك فرض على العباد مؤبد
Humanity's praise of him is no mere praise;
it is an everlasting duty upon all people.
ماnever رأىhe saw فيamong الرجالmen مثلكlike you مولىًa lord
ما رأى في الرجال مثلك مولىً
مهَّدpacified الشامal-Sham بالحسامwith the sword فأنشدso he recited
مهَّد الشام بالحسام فأنشد
He has seen no lord like you among men,
who pacified al-Sham with the sword; so he recited:
أرخواrecord the date قائدthe commander of الجيوشthe armies معينيmy helper
أرخوا قائد الجيوش معيني
صدرthe chief of ملكيmy realm فؤادFuad (heart) مجديmy glory محمدMuhammad
صدر ملكي فؤاد مجدي محمد
Record the date: the armies' commander is my helper,
my realm's chief, Muhammad Fuad—the heart of my glory.
