على لحد إبراهيم والغادة التي
دعاهاhe called her لجناتto the gardens النعيمbliss قفاhalt, you two نبكيwe weep
دعاها لجنات النعيم قفا نبكي
At the grave of Ibrahim and the maiden whom
By Abraham's tomb and paradise garden where
he called to the gardens of bliss, halt, you two, and let us weep.
The angels of heaven bade her stop and weep
فمنfor, from بعدafter روحيناour two souls زوتwithered دوحةspreading tree التقىpiety
فمن بعد روحينا زوت دوحة التقى
ومنand from بعدafter إبرهيمIbrahim غُلَّتwas shackled يدُthe hand النسكdevotion
ومن بعد إبرهيم غُلَّت يدُ النسك
For after the passing of our two souls, the spreading tree of piety withered,
After two souls had flown from earthly care
and after Ibrahim, the hand of devotion was shackled.
With Abraham gone, ascetic life was steep
وصبَّتand poured يواقيتَrubies الدموعtears محاجريmy eye sockets
وصبَّت يواقيتَ الدموع محاجري
وباتand spent the night سوادblackness العينthe eye يقطرdrips بالمسكwith musk
وبات سواد العين يقطر بالمسك
And my eye sockets poured forth rubies of tears,
And down my cheeks fell many a glistening tear
and the eye's blackness dripped musk all night.
As darkened eyes wept myrrh without asleep
