فيطوف ساقٍ أو يطيب صبوح
After your departure, daylight has no brightness
After you, the daylight has no clarity,
For a cupbearer to make his rounds or a morning draught to taste sweet.
A leg circulates or a morning becomes good.

And apart from remembering you, a distraught soul has no night companion;
Except for remembering you, there is no night companion
His sorrows go out with him in the morning and return in the evening.
Whose longings and sorrows renew with it.

O moon of Syria, whom no wall protected
By any rampart but you, nor by any praiseworthy father.
Except your wall, and no praised father.

If you disappear from our sights, then our hearts
Are yours, and all our ribs are lofty palaces.
And all our wings are castles for you.

The spirit had returned to al-Sham through your justice.
The spirit returned to Syria because of your justice.

No devoted governor but you had occupied?
Or the protection of passersby from the powerful sin to governors outright?

Alas, no country in its time will be safe
And by God, this opening is no triumph.

To the separation of the righteous, then hearts will mourn.
