With wine and spirit, she came as a sun before dawn.

And the cup in her hand was more splendid than magic.

Slender-waisted, her radiance was daybreak in the darkness,

But it became twilight’s glow from the blush of bashfulness.

She said, while dawn and her face stirred our longing

For a morning draught of the wine of her fragrant smiling mouth:

“Rise, drink the sun before the sun rises.” I said to her,

“Say ‘from the sun,’ O my sun and my moon.”
