لمdid not أنسI forget غانيةًa beautiful woman وقفتI stood ببابهاat her door
لم أنس غانيةً وقفت ببابها
وبكفand in the hand of ساقيهاher cupbearer الرحيقthe nectar الناقيthe pure
وبكف ساقيها الرحيق الناقي
I have not forgotten a beauty at whose door I stood,
I have not forgotten a maiden who stood at her door
And in her cupbearer’s hand was pure nectar.
And from her swaying ankles poured clear wine
قالتshe said وقدand already كشفuncovered الهواthe wind عنfrom ساقهاher leg
قالت وقد كشف الهوا عن ساقها
منwho أنتyou قلتI said غلامa servant هذاthis الساقthe leg
من أنت قلت غلام هذا الساق
She said, as the wind had bared her leg,
She said, as desire unveiled her leg:
“Who are you?” I said, “A servant of this leg.”
"Who are you?" I said: "I am the slave of this leg."
