Is it because a playful man calls the sun 'tūhā'

that her father, the star of the gathering, has grown troubled?

Ask him to pardon a satirist who mocked her

in jest for people who honored her.

Would he mock one with such glances that, when

the gazelle sees her, he says, 'I am her brother'—

and a breast like a mirror, in which are revealed

the forms of people who stand facing her?

    يود بحلقه لو شخَّخوها

    And between the two potbellied forms she has a sandgrouse;

he wishes they would make her piss into his throat.

If she has no bottom, why

does he stick out his tongue if they foul her with dung?

She is the fair one, not the hideous; shame is brought

through her by God upon those who have vilified her.

Her color vies with the color of strong wine,

and her mouth puts the ruby's redness to shame.

If what they alleged was meant in earnest,

and they deliberately targeted her with ugly abuse,

then it comes from inflamed eyes; for the sore-eyed are people

who, when they behold the sun, call her ugly.

So record her date: she surpasses the sun in beauty,

and Abd Allah Surati is her father.
