O nights of joy, return to us,

bringing the moon-cheeked gazelles of Jilliq.

And we greeted your radiance in the clear light of morn—

—ing; for morning is no clearer than your radiance.

I do not forget an evening of yours that was

the brow and hair-parting of serenity and fidelity.

    There I won a lily-scented beauty;

in her, that scent proved more delightful than Umm Zanbaq.

Amid the flowers of the hills and the flowers of the bottles,

and the east wind's rustle and the collared dove's song.

That evening—may my hand forget the embrace of beautiful women

if I ever deliberately forget it for the kingdom of al-Khawarnaq.
