يوم الجلوس على الأيام تيّاهُ

يوم الجلوس على الأيام تيّاهُ

بكوكبٍ بهر الدنيا محيّاهُ

بكوكبٍ بهر الدنيا محيّاهُ

The day of accession stands proud above all other days,

The day he sat upon the days adorned it

with a star whose face has dazzled the world.

With a planet whose radiance illuminated the world

سماه مولاي إسماعيل والدُه

سماه مولاي إسماعيل والدُه

توفيقَ واللَه بالمنصور سماه

توفيقَ واللَه بالمنصور سماه

His father, my lord Ismail, named him

My Lord named him Ismail and his father named him

Tawfiq, and God named him al-Mansur, 'the Victorious.'

Success, and God named him Al-Mansur

العدل عدته والفضل حلته

العدل عدته والفضل حلته

والبذل شيمته والفصل نجواه

والبذل شيمته والفصل نجواه

Justice is his armament, and bounty his robe;

Justice is his principle, grace is his garment

and generosity is his nature, and decisive judgment his private counsel.

Generosity is his trait, and distinction is his companion

فهو الأمير الذي يرعى رعيته

فهو الأمير الذي يرعى رعيته

بالمكرمات وعين اللَه ترعاه

بالمكرمات وعين اللَه ترعاه

For he is the prince who tends his subjects

He is the prince who shepherds his people

with noble deeds, while God's eye watches over him.

With favors, and God's eye watches over him

من آب يطلب منه العفو أدركه

من آب يطلب منه العفو أدركه

ومن أبى وأحب الموت يعطاه

ومن أبى وأحب الموت يعطاه

Whoever returns seeking pardon from him obtains it;

Whoever seeks pardon will find it from him

and whoever refuses and desires death is granted it.

And whoever refuses and loves death, he will grant it

أدوا الخضوع له يا قوم واعتبروا

أدوا الخضوع له يا قوم واعتبروا

فهو الحسام الذي يسطو به اللَه

فهو الحسام الذي يسطو به اللَه

Render him submission, O people, and take heed;

Bow in submission to him, O people, and consider

for he is the sharp sword with which God strikes.

He is the sword with which God overwhelms

لا يرحم اللَه حرّاً لا يسالمه

لا يرحم اللَه حرّاً لا يسالمه

ولا يعذب عبداً ليس ينساه

ولا يعذب عبداً ليس ينساه

God has no mercy on a free man who does not make peace with him,

May God not have mercy on the free man who does not make peace with him

nor does He punish a slave who does not forget him.

Nor torment the slave who does not forget him

فالناس في ظله الضافي مؤرخة

فالناس في ظله الضافي مؤرخة

اللَه ينصر توفيقاً ويرعاه

اللَه ينصر توفيقاً ويرعاه

So the people beneath his ample shade record the date:

So people live in his abundant shade blessed

God grants Tawfiq victory and watches over him.
