تفديك الولاة بكل والٍ

كريمٍ جاء في زمنٍ بخيل

كريمٍ جاء في زمنٍ بخيل

The governors would ransom you with every governor—

The governors ransom you with every generous

a generous man who came in a miserly age.

One who came in a stingy time

رددت على البلاد مُلِثَّ غيثٍ

رددت على البلاد مُلِثَّ غيثٍ

نأى عنها وعجَّل بالرحيل

نأى عنها وعجَّل بالرحيل

You restored to the land a lasting rain

You brought back to the country the abundant rain

that had gone far from it and hastened to depart.

After avoiding it and hastening to depart

وما قدر الملثِّ وأنت بحرٌ

وما قدر الملثِّ وأنت بحرٌ

يقوم لدى البلاد بألف نيل

يقوم لدى البلاد بألف نيل

And what is lasting rain worth, when you are a sea

And you could not appreciate the abundant one while you are a sea

that serves the land as a thousand Niles?

That stands by the country with a thousand Niles

سموت كما سمعنا كل سامٍ

سموت كما سمعنا كل سامٍ

وآمنّا بأنك خير قيل

وآمنّا بأنك خير قيل

You rose above every lofty one, as we heard,

You rose high as we heard every high-minded one

and we believed you to be the finest ruler.

And we believed you are the best said

وزدت وقد رآك الطرف حسناً

وزدت وقد رآك الطرف حسناً

كزيد الخيل ممدوح الرسول

كزيد الخيل ممدوح الرسول

And you proved more beautiful still when the eye beheld you,

And you increased, after the eyes saw you good

like Zayd al-Khayl, praised by the Messenger.

Like the increased horses, praised by the Messenger

فظلَّ جنان سوريا ينادي

فظلَّ جنان سوريا ينادي

قبولي كلُّ ما يرضى قبولي

قبولي كلُّ ما يرضى قبولي

So Syria's heart kept calling:

So the gardens of Syria remained calling out

"I accept all that Qabuli approves."

My acceptance of all that pleases acceptance
