Surely, conviviality among olive trees and crops,

And water from a pool in vessels,

And roast meat and tea in cups,

    Glazed, their lettering gilded,

As we drank together, with attendants standing by—

Is dearer to me—indeed, more delectable and sweeter—

And more pleasing than remaining beneath roofs.

And renewed it, in defiance of proud noses,

I offer this by proxy: either

As ransom, or else pardon from a kindly soul.
