In one day, through your death, you revived a people

You revived in your death a people

Whose reins you could not have gathered had you lived.

Had you lived, you would not have tamed it

You left a radiant memory that will never go out,

You left a shining memory that does not fade

And founded a party that gives its all for lofty aims.

And established a party selflessly devoted

أبكيت من ملأ السرور جرابه

أبكيت من ملأ السرور جرابه

بل كان موتك في الصدور سنانا

بل كان موتك في الصدور سنانا

You made one whose pouch was filled with joy weep;

You made the happiest weep from joy

Indeed, your death was a spearpoint in their breasts.

Indeed your death was like a spear in hearts

ابكيت جل العالمين فكبروا

وتحسروا اذ قد بعدت مكانا

وتحسروا اذ قد بعدت مكانا

You made most of humanity weep, and they proclaimed God's greatness,

You made most of the world weep, so they grew

And lamented, for you had gone far away.

And regretted that you went far away

وجلاء خصمك من بلادك حانا

You have not died, but fate has taken you,

You did not die, but destiny took you

And the time for your foe to leave your land has come.

And the time came for your enemy to leave your land

He has not died; rather, you were once an opponent,

You did not die, but before you were opposed

And now all say, 'You are our guide.'

You have not died, no; lamenting you is a mistake, Mustafa.

Rather, you have gained years, and the stubborn opponent has softened.

Rather you gained life and the opponent despaired

لكن سبقت لكي تحوز رثانا

You have not died, no—and all people are destined to perish,

You did not die, no - and all people die

But you went ahead to claim our lament.

But you went first so you could gain inheritance

He has not died who left a policy to follow;

You did not die - who left politics pursuing

So why the weeping, when you have strengthened our bonds?

قد كنت تسعى أن تؤلف أمة

فتألفت مذ نعي خطبك جانا

You had striven to unite a nation,

You always sought to unite the nation

And it united when the news of your tragic death reached us.

So it united when your sermons reached us

You had not known your party to be like this—

You did not expect your party to be thus

In numbers and resolve, O pivot of our millstone.

In number and resolve, O pivot of bliss

تهز يوم الاربعين حنانا

You had not known that Egypt, with its people,

You did not expect Egypt with its people

Would tremble with longing on the fortieth day.

To shudder on the fortieth day in sorrow

You had not known that love for you lay hidden

You did not expect your hidden love

In every breast, O great hope of ours.

How many noble men have died, how many heroes passed away,

Many brave heroes died - but how many kings

Indeed, how many kings have suffered death!

Suffered the stroke of death before their time?

And out of caution, diplomacy, and concern for safety.

Hypocritically, politically, insincerely

But they rushed to your great funeral gathering,

But for your magnificent scene they raced

On horseback and on foot, to honor our homeland.

Horse and foot, prestige and protection

Had you risen, you would have asked: Whom are they mourning?

If you rose and said "who mourns me?"

Has a saint or the king of kings perished?

Would it be my family or the King of Kings in devotion?

لا تعجبن اذا القضية جاوزت

Do not marvel if this affair has exceeded

Do not be surprised if the issue went

The bounds of rank, for this calamity has struck us.

صعب علينا رزء فقدك اذ علي

He has not died who left his brother fulfilling

The duty owed to al-Liwa, without ever slackening.

فالحق حصحص والمخالف دانا
