Congratulations, Izzat, the chosen one—rejoice!
Congratulations, honored al-Mukhtar, may your fate bring you union
The fates have generously granted you union.
Destiny has been kind, granting you reunion
بكthrough you ازدادتgrew جبالmountains الغربthe west فخراin pride
بك ازدادت جبال الغرب فخرا
ومادتand swayed تبتغيseeking نيلattainment of المعاليexalted heights
ومادت تبتغي نيل المعالي
Through you, the western mountains have grown in pride,
With you, the mountains of the West have gained more pride
And swayed, seeking to attain exalted heights.
And aspired to reach the highest ideals
وهنأand congratulated بعضهاsome of them بعضاothers وأضحتand became
وهنأ بعضها بعضا وأضحت
لهاfor them البشرىthe glad tidings مقدمةa prelude to الكمالperfection
لها البشرى مقدمة الكمال
And some congratulated others; and now
Some congratulated others, and received
Their glad tidings are a prelude to perfection.
Good tidings heralding perfection
فسسso govern بالعدلwith justice أمتهاtheir community وشمرand gird yourself
فسس بالعدل أمتها وشمر
وسددand act rightly والتمسand seek أسمىthe loftiest الخصالvirtues
وسدد والتمس أسمى الخصال
So govern their people justly, and gird yourself;
So lead your nation with justice, roll up your sleeves
And act rightly, and seek the noblest virtues.
Aim straight, and seek the highest morals
وريضهاand train them وهذبهاand refine them وجاملand be gracious
وريضها وهذبها وجامل
فأهلوهاfor their people لهمthey have هممaspirations عوالlofty
فأهلوها لهم همم عوال
And train them, refine them, and be gracious,
Make them content, refine and indulge them
For their people have lofty aspirations.
So they become worthy of great ideals
لهمthey have فيin الملةthe faith السمحاthe tolerant رسوخfirm rootedness
لهم في الملة السمحا رسوخ
وفيand in الآدابliterature أقمارmoons of اللياليthe nights
وفي الآداب أقمار الليالي
They are firmly rooted in the tolerant faith,
They are firmly rooted in the tolerant faith
And in letters they are the moons of the nights.
And in manners, the full moons of nights
وفيand in حبlove for الخليفةthe caliph قدindeed تفانواthey devoted themselves utterly
وفي حب الخليفة قد تفانوا
فقلso say عبدAbd (servant) الحميدal-Hamid (the Praiseworthy) ولاand not نباليwe care
فقل عبد الحميد ولا نبالي
And in love for the caliph they have devoted themselves utterly;
In their love for the Caliph, they are devoted
So say “Abd al-Hamid,” and we care not.
Say Abdulhamid, we do not care
فكلfor every ارادةdecree صدرتwas issued نراهاwe regard it
فكل ارادة صدرت نراها
كفرضas a duty ينقضيis discharged بالامتثالthrough compliance
كفرض ينقضي بالامتثال
For we regard every decree issued
So we see every will that came from you
As a duty discharged through compliance.
As an obligation fulfilled by compliance
لذاtherefore كلall الورىhumankind بالطوعwillingly نادواthey called out
لذا كل الورى بالطوع نادوا
فقمso rise وامرand command بنفسfor a life أوor بمالfor wealth
فقم وامر بنفس أو بمال
Thus all the people called out willingly:
Thus all creation willingly called
So rise, and command us to give life or wealth.
So rise and command with soul or wealth
ودعand disregard ماwhat نمهhe spread it maliciously الواشيthe slanderer فاناfor we
ودع ما نمه الواشي فانا
وربby the Lord البيتthe House أصفىpurer منthan زلالlimpid water
ورب البيت أصفى من زلال
And disregard what the slanderer spread, for we—
Leave what the slanderer imagined, for I
By the Lord of the House—are purer than limpid water.
And the Lord of the house, are purer than clear water
لناwe have حبlove واخلاصand sincerity ونصحand sincere counsel
لنا حب واخلاص ونصح
ومحضand pure الانقيادobedience بكلin every حالcircumstance
ومحض الانقياد بكل حال
We have love, sincerity, and sincere counsel,
We have love, loyalty and advice
And unalloyed obedience in every circumstance,
And pure obedience in any case
لمولىfor the lord of الظفرvictory سيفsword of اللهGod عبدAbd (servant) الal- (the)

حميدHamid (Praiseworthy) المرتضىthe favored one ساميlofty in الفعالdeeds
حميد المرتضى سامي الفعال
For the lord of victory, God's sword, Abd al-
For the Master of Victory, the Sword of God, Abdul
Hamid, the favored one, sublime in deeds.

وانand indeed عيونهhis eyes ترعاكwatch over you اماeither
وان عيونه ترعاك اما
واماor else فاركبنso surely mount متنback of الكمالperfection
واما فاركبن متن الكمال
And indeed his eyes watch over you, one way
And his eyes watch over you
Or another; so mount the back of perfection.
So ride the steed of perfection
وسرand proceed وفقin accordance with الإرادةthe decree مستعيناseeking aid
وسر وفق الإرادة مستعينا
وسلand ask مولاكyour lord مائدةa table spread الحلالwhat is lawful
وسل مولاك مائدة الحلال
And proceed according to the decree, seeking aid,
Go ahead by the will, seeking help
And ask your lord for a table of lawful fare.
And ask your Master for the feast of the lawful
ودمand endure يحميprotects ارتقاءكyour ascent للمعاليto exalted heights
ودم يحمي ارتقاءك للمعالي
رضاءfavor منيرilluminator of منطقةrealm of الكمالperfection
رضاء منير منطقة الكمال
And may you endure, your ascent to exalted heights guarded by
And blood that protects your rise to glory
The favor of the one who illumines the realm of perfection.
