رسول جاء بالبشر

وطرسٌ فاه بالأمر

A messenger came with good tidings

And Peter loudly proclaimed the command

بنور الله بنداو

تجلت في حلي البدر

With the light of God they were healed

It appeared in the crescent's ornaments

وتاهت وارتقت عجبا

وقالت فزت بالفخر

And it wandered and climbed in wonder

And said, I pride myself on pride

كرام سادة حلوا

فناءي فاعتلى قدري

Generous masters came

My courtyard ascended in status

فاني كعبة الفضلا

واني روضة العطر

I am the Kaaba of virtue

And I am the garden of fragrance

واني جنة فتحت

وجل الناس لا يدري

And I am a paradise that opened

And most people do not know

فمن حققت سعادته

ورام اطالة العمر

So whoever fulfilled his happiness

And wanted to prolong his life

فلا يهجر زيارتنا

ليطربه غنا النسر

Let him not neglect our visit

To delight him with the eagle's singing

على أغصان زيتون

بشعب فائح الزهر

On the branches of an olive tree

With a meadow of blooming flowers

وماء بارد شهد

زلال راق كالتبر

And cool, clear, smooth water like hail

And shade the likes of which

وظل ماله مثل

به ريح الصبا تسري

The morning breeze flows through

And brothers like a necklace of

واخوان كعقد من

نضيد زين بالدر

Strung pearls

And God's light in a group

ونور الله في جمع

يدير الكاس بالشعر

Passing the cup of poetry

Cups of tea not cups

كؤس الشاي لا كاسا

به المحظور من خمر

Of forbidden wine

Happy, healing, beautiful

هنيئا شافيا حلا

وليمة طيب الذكر

A feast of good mention

God's peace, the bride did not wear

سلام الله ما لبست

عروس حلة الستر

A dress of concealment

To a group in Bandaw

على جمع في بنداو

تنظر ساعة الظهر

Looking at noon time

They called happiness, they were rid of

دعو السرور هم خلا

برونيا أخا الغدر

Sorrows, O brother of betrayal

So answer me quickly willingly

فلبا مسرعاً طوعا

بأبيات بلا نثر

With verses without prose

If I spoke them coquettishly

فلو نطقت بها غيدا

رداح نضة الثغر

My mouth’s smile would return

Inked, mellifluous

محبرة موردة

لها ليل من الشعر

It has a night of poetry

Seductive, fluttering

خدلجة مهفهفة

عروب ربت الخدر

Arabs nurtured by hurt

Agitating, fragrant

مخلخلة معطرة

قطوف ناهد الصدر

Buds of the supple breast

And formed and composed it

وصاغتها برنتها

بظل البان والسدر

In the shade of wood and lote

Accompanied by the oud’s resonance

يمازجها رنين العود

ما بعدت من السحر

Nothing comes close to sorcery

Hastily like an improviser

على عجل كمرتجل

ليخدم ثاقب الفكر

To serve the penetrating mind

Answer me, obliging the sublime worth

بروني تكلفها جوابا

مجيبا سامي القدر

For if an unparalleled literate thanked

It would be an example with gratitude

فان يسمح أديب بال

مثال لهجت بالشكر
