1. طابت صفاتك مصطفى فتهللت

    بك مصر وازدانت بحزب حافل

    Your qualities are noble, Mustafa, and so beamed

    Egypt through you, and was adorned with a large party.

  2. أحيت مراشدك الشبيبة فارتقت

    لمدارج الشرف الرفيع الطائل

    Your guidance revived the youth, and they rose

    To the heights of great, exalted honor.

  3. قد قمت بالامر الخطير فأرعدوا

    فزعا ونلت مذمة من جاهل

    You indeed undertook the weighty task, and they trembled

    In terror, and you received reproach from an ignoramus.

  4. جهلوا المقاصد أو أتوا بتجاهل

    فتقولوا وتأججوا بالباطل

    They did not know the aims, or feigned ignorance,

    So they fabricated claims and blazed with falsehood.

  5. دم رافعا ذاك اللواء مشيدا

    صرح المعارف بالثبات الكامل

    Keep holding that banner high, building

    The edifice of learning with absolute steadfastness.

  6. أنت المراقب لاقتحامك لجها

    وبك افتخار المستنير الفاضل

    You are watched for braving its depths,

    And in you the enlightened, virtuous man takes pride.

  7. ولتهن مدرسة الكمال بحزبها

    ورئيسها الشهم الغيور الباسل

    And may al-Kamal School rejoice in its party

    And its magnanimous, zealous, valiant leader.

  8. وليفتخر ذا العصر وليسعد فذا

    عبد الحميد على الجواد الرافل

    And let this age take pride, and let him rejoice, peerless—

    Abd al-Hamid upon the proudly strutting steed,

  9. بالجد ساع حاميا بل جاذبا

    روح العوالم بالدهاء الفاعل

    Striving earnestly, protecting—nay, drawing

    The spirit of the worlds through effective shrewdness.

  10. فهو المجاهد لامراء وأمره

    حتما يطاع برغم أنف المائل

    For he is the striver, beyond dispute, and his command

    Is surely obeyed, against the dissenter's will.

  11. وليبتهج بسمو عباس فقد

    أرضى النفوس بذا الحنان الوابل

    And let there be joy in Abbas's eminence, for he has

    Pleased souls with this downpour of tenderness.

  12. لاذت بطلعته الشبيبة فانثنت

    للغرب ترمق كالخبير العاقل

    The youth sought refuge in his countenance, then turned

    Toward the West, gazing like a wise expert.

  13. يا نخبة العصر الجديد وحزبه

    ورجاله وحماته في القابل

    O elite of the new age, and its party,

    And its men and its defenders in the days to come:

  14. ما الغرب مثل الشرق في اقدامه

    فيما مضى من فارس أو راجل

    The West is not the East's equal in daring,

    In bygone days, among horsemen or foot soldiers.

  15. فالشرق أن رفض السبات تراكضت

    فرسانه وأتت بفخر هائل

    For if the East casts off slumber, forth will race

    Its horsemen, bringing tremendous glory.

  16. حان التيقظ والطبيعة ساعدت

    والعود أحمد للنجاح العاجل

    The time to awaken has come, and nature has lent its aid;

    And returning is more praiseworthy for swift success.

  17. هذا هناء العيش هذا صفوه

    هذا صراط الفوز هل من عامل

    This is life's bliss; this is its serenity.

    This is the path to triumph—is there anyone who will act?

  18. فالعلم نور والجهالة ظلمة

    والجد حزم لا جمود الخامل

    For knowledge is light, and ignorance darkness;

    And diligence is resolve, not the idler's inertia.

  19. والبخل عار والسكينة ذلة

    والاحتلال زعاق سم قاتل

    And stinginess is disgrace, and stillness humiliation;

    And occupation is bitter brine, a deadly poison.

  20. من جد نال وللمغايم فرصة

    والعمر يعبر كالزلال السائل

    Whoever strives attains, and there is an opportunity for gains;

    And life passes like pure, flowing water.

  21. هذي نصائح مخلص مستبشر

    برقي قطركم به من كامل

    These are the counsels of a sincere well-wisher, rejoicing

    At your country's rise through him, the accomplished Kamil.
