بانواthey departed وَأَضحىand became الجِسمُthe body مِنfrom بعدِهِمafter them
ماnot تُبصِرُsees العَينُthe eye لَهُof it فيّاa shadow
They departed, and after them my body became
The ladies have left and with their absence
Such that the eye sees no shadow of it.
My eyes no longer find joy in anything
ياO أَسَفيmy sorrow مِنهُمbecause of them وَمِنand because of قَولِهُمtheir words
ماnot ضَرَّكَharmed you الفَقدُthe loss لَناof us شيّاanything
Oh, my sorrow because of them and their words:
Oh what sorrow I feel for them and their words
“Losing us has not hurt you at all.”
As if their absence hasn't pained me at all
بِأَيّwith what وَجهٍface أَتَلَقّاهُمshall I meet them
إِنif وَجَدونيthey find me بَعدَهُمafter them حَيّاalive
With what face shall I meet them,
In what state will I meet them again
If they find me alive after their departure?
If after they've left, they still find me alive
