قَدindeed لَسَعتhas stung حيّةserpent الهَوىpassion كَبديmy liver
قَد لَسَعت حيّة الهَوى كَبدي
فَلاso no طَبيبphysician لَهاfor it وَلاand no راقيhealer by incantation
فَلا طَبيب لَها وَلا راقي
The serpent of passion has stung my liver,
The serpent of passion has bitten my liver
So it has no physician, nor any healer by incantation,
It has no healer and no soother
إِلّاexcept الحَبيبthe beloved الَّذيwhom شغفتI am infatuated بِهِwith him
إِلّا الحَبيب الَّذي شغفت بِهِ
فَإِنَّهُfor indeed he رقيَتيmy healing charm وَترياقيand my antidote
فَإِنَّهُ رقيَتي وَترياقي
Except the beloved with whom I am infatuated;
Except the beloved whom I crave
For he is my healing charm and my antidote.
For he is my remedy and antidote
