بِبلقعةٍ بَيداء ظَمآن صادِيا
And no mother of a fawn, through a whole day and night,
A mother of a lost child, wandering day and night
In a bare desert waste, thirsty and parched,
In the white desert, thirsty and confused,
تَهيمshe wanders وَلاand not تَدريshe knows إِلىto أَينwhere تَبتَغيshe seeks
تَهيم وَلا تَدري إِلى أَين تَبتَغي
مولّهةdistraught حُزناًwith grief تَجوزُshe crosses الفَيافِياthe desert wastes
مولّهة حُزناً تَجوزُ الفَيافِيا
Wandering, not knowing where to seek,
Seeking blindly, not knowing where to go,
Distraught with grief, crossing the desert wastes,
Grieving as she crosses the endless sands.

Harmed at the onset of midday heat, finding no
I tried to help by opening the waterskin, but found
Cure for her ailment in cool water,
No remedy for her distress in the cool water.

Who, when she turns away from her fawn, devotes herself to him,
When she turns from her search, it seems her soul departs,
And finds him anguished in his breast, empty-bellied,
And I see him, a baby bird fallen from the nest.

Was in greater pain than I the day they lashed their loads,
More anguished than I, the day they packed their loads
And the herald of parting cried out that there would be no reunion.
And the herald of parting cried, "Do not meet again!"
