وَأَنتَ عَلى رَغمِ العِدى فائِزُ القِدحِ
You have arrived, Baha al-Din, with the most auspicious arrival,
You arrived with the glory of the faith, the happiest arrival,
And, despite your foes, yours is the winning lot-arrow.
And you are victorious over enemies, winner of the contest.

Nor is what was granted so readily a wonder—
It is no wonder what was made easy by
Victory, through the judgment of Abu al-Fath, blessed with success.
The opinion of Abu al-Fath al-Muwaffaq of conquests.

Yet it is strange that he should spend the night resolved
But it is amazing that one whose nature tends
On deadly assault, though his very nature is to forgive,
Toward murder should resolve to pardon and forbearance.

And that you should be found frowning and fierce,
That you should meet frowning, full of fierceness,
Though you have always been cheerful of face and gracious in temper.
Yet remain gentle-faced, of noble and liberal manners.

You rose to bear what was laid upon you, without shirking,
You took up the burden laid on you, without flinching,
And spared no effort in sincere counsel to the caliph.
And did not stint any effort in advising the Caliph sincerely.

أَخا عَزَماتٍ فَاِستَكانوا إِلى الصُلحِ
The enemies saw you, when you were entrusted with war against them,
The rebels saw you when you thinned their wars,
As a man of firm resolve; so they submitted to peace.
A brother in resolves, so they inclined toward peace.

مِنَ اللَهِ عَهداً في مَساعيكَ بِالنُجحِ
So may you remain blessed in your resolve, receiving
Thus you remain steadfast in righteous beliefs, taking
From God a pledge of success in your endeavors.
A pact with God that your efforts will succeed.

And take these necklaces of my praise; I have always been
Before you, my praises were principles I have never ceased
Miserly with them toward anyone unworthy.
To address to those unfit to be brothers to misers.

They befriend whoever grows cheerful through them,
I make friends with those who are cheered by them
And turn away from whoever does not warm to praise.
And ignore those who do not rush to praise.
