What ails you, O companion of generosity and valor?

And you are among the nobles of the house of Abbas,

The head of glory—and you are the summit of that head.

You abandoned me, in my need, to despair.

You rebuffed me as the harsh and ignoble do,

Leaving me desolate after long companionship.

And people fulfill other people's needs.

Do not build me an excuse with a weak foundation.

For you do not lack the means for it, nor are you bankrupt.

And your rebuff is nothing but the porridge-maker's rebuff.
