The house most deserving and worthiest of our congratulations

is a house whose buildings were raised upon good fortune.

Felicity to it, and to the world through your rule,

O you in whom the world and all within it take pride!

And should a king be congratulated on a house he has settled in,

when the earth, far and near, has submitted to him?

You settled in it, so generosity settled in its courtyard,

and the sea of gifts surged through its quarters.

May its dwellings never be empty of you,

for they are forms, and you are their meanings.

Through you it gained honor whose glories endure

throughout time, and exaltation and renown.

Thus Time cannot rival it in pride,

nor can the stars approach it in glory.

Its battlement struts proudly above al-Jawza,

and no wonder that, through you, it struts in pride.

When monuments vie in glory, and there sit, knees drawn up, the

Pyramids to boast, with the Iwan as their rival,

can the two claim dominion like that of its master,

or boast of a builder like its builder?

Through al-Mustadi, Commander of the Faithful, rose

its pillars, and its stairways ascended in glory:

God's caliph in the world and its governor,

    through the goodness of his conduct in it, and its shepherd;

the best of creation, its walkers and riders,

yes, all its townsfolk and desert dwellers.

Through him it became a Kaaba of generosity, where happiness awaits

those who hope in it, and its bounty-seekers are revived by kindness.

The hand of misery has never clasped the hand of one hoping in it,

nor has anyone who looks to it been shown a face of hardship.

And I have known for certain, since I planted within it

my praises of you, that I shall reap them.

Can a hand be disappointed when its fingers have been stretched

toward a hand whose favors fill the world?

Restore, with a breath of generosity from your bounty,

life to my soul, for its hopes have died.

And live on; may joy endure for you there, and may

its dwellings always remain inhabited by you.

May hopes spend the evening encircling its doors,

until its assembly hall is choked with the delegation of praise.

And may you live in bliss that has no end,

and felicity, as long as their driver sings the caravans onward,

in a reign whose supporter Time never humbles,

nor do the nights terrify anyone loyal to it.

For success is its scout in whatever it undertakes,

and victory its habit against whoever opposes it.
