    O Jalal al-Din, O king,

    who is a king in his deeds,

    بِالنَدى في الناسِ مُشتَرِكُ

    and generous one, whose wealth is always

    shared among the people through bounty;

    وَحِمى الأَعراضِ مُنتَهَكُ

    O you whose honor is guarded and whole,

    while the sanctuary of honor is violated;

    and faithful to your promise in an age

    whose people lie whenever they speak:

    you, while minds are flighty,

    are steadfast in judgment, seasoned by experience.

    For you, with good fortune, turns—though

    your enemies are humbled—the celestial sphere.

    وَاِرقَ مَوفوراً فَقَد هَلَكوا

    So remain victorious, for they have fallen;

    and rise, undiminished, for they have perished.

    And listen to a poet whose hand

    clings to you, after God.

    Hope in you has stirred him, so his hopes

    contend within his breast.

    He settled in al-Zawra of Iraq, as

    fish settled in the hollows of the sky.

    I am, over the authorization of my reward,

    bewildered throughout this night.

    For my ribs have nearly, from

    the heat of thought's fire, melted.

    My affair has become known there, and filled

    with talk of me are the roads and lanes.

    They hurled conjectures at me—how many

    paths of sin have they trodden!

    سوقَةٌ قَبلي وَلا مَلِكُ

    An ordeal never inflicted upon

    a commoner before me, nor upon a king;

    especially when the matter is in the hands of one

    who is engrossed in doing good,

    and the blood of wealth is overflowing,

    spilled at the hands of petitioners.

    So remedy my plight, for in

    your outstretched hand lies relief.

    And capture the choicest praise, for not

    at every moment does the snare catch.
