Yet your love remains firmly lodged in my heart.

A love not altered by nights,

Impossible for separation to change it.

My night is long after parting from her.
So my night after her parting was long.

My eyelids raining like April showers.

God bestowed kingship upon him as a gift,
On you their slander glided: untrue, unjust—
and the Messenger bequeathed him his caliphate.
Intimacies in hearts where they gained acceptance.

Nor did baseness defile them.

with long life allied to it on your behalf.
And their forebears: Mubarrid and Khalil.

Praise like the breath of Khuzami poets
