ماnot كُنتُI was أَحسِبُthinking أَنَّthat عَهpledge (first fragment of عهدكم)
دَكَمyour pledge (completion of عهدكم) كَذاthus عَهدٌa pledge سَقيمُailing
I had not thought that your pledge
I did not expect that your covenant
would be such an ailing pledge.
Would be thus, a feeble covenant
يُجفىis shunned وَلِيُّكُمُyour friend وَيَفand vanishes (first fragment of ويفنى)
نىvanishes (completion of ويفنى) حَقُّthe claim صُحبَتِهِof his companionship القَديمُlong-standing
Your friend is shunned, and vanishing
Your confidant is abandoned, his right
is the long-standing claim of his companionship.
To long companionship denied
وَلَقَدand indeed ظَنَنتُI thought وَفاءَكُمyour faithfulness
بِالعَهدِto the pledge ليto me أَبَداًforever يَقومُendures
And indeed I thought your faithfulness
I truly thought your loyalty
to your pledge to me would endure forever.
To the covenant with me would endure
وَأَرىand I see رُسوميmy traces عِندَكُمamong you
تَعفوfade away كَماas عَفَتِhave faded away الرُسومُthe traces
And I see my traces among you
But I see my vestiges with you
fading, as traces have faded away.
Fade, as vestiges fade away
