Why should I be content—when the sea lies spread out

Before me—with sipping from trickles and scant pools?

It casts forth for people, from its jewels,

Enough to suffice, apart from its foam.

I shall surely brand al-Zawra, through my departure

From it, with shame that lasts forever.

For someone like me to leave a town

Is a disgrace to the people of that town.
