فَدَتكَmay ... ransom you عِمادَImad الدينِal-Din نَفسيmy soul وَماand what حَوَتheld

May my soul ransom you, Imad al-Din, and all that is held
by my right hand, and my nearest kin and clan.
نَهَضتَyou rose بِماto what كَلَّفتُI charged جودَكَyour generosity حامِلاًbearing
لِأَعباءِfor the burdens of حاجاتيmy needs نُهوضَthe rising of مُشَمِّرِone girded for action
You rose to the task I laid upon your generosity, bearing
the burdens of my needs with the vigor of one girded for action.
فَأَغنَيتَنيso you made me independent عَنof كُلِّevery مُثرٍwealthy man مُبَخَّلٍdeemed miserly
وَكَمand how many مِنof غَنِيٍّa rich man نَفسُهُhis soul نَفسُthe soul of مُقتِرِa pauper
Thus you spared me recourse to any wealthy man deemed miserly;
and many a rich man's soul is the soul of a pauper.
نَزَعتَyou harked back إِلىto مَجدٍglory قَديمٍancient وَسودَدٍand lordship
مُنيفٍexalted وَأَصلٍand a lineage كِسرَوِيٍّof Khosrow مُطَهَّرِunsullied
You are heir to ancient glory and to a lordship
exalted, and to an unsullied lineage of Khosrow,
إِلىto خَيرِthe finest بَيتٍhouse مِنamong ذَوابَةِthe foremost of فارِسٍPersia
وَأَكرَمِand the noblest عيصٍstock فيamong الأَنامِhumankind وَمَعشَرِand clan
to the finest house among Persia's foremost,
and the noblest stock and clan among mankind.
فَقُلتُso I said وَقَدand already أَولَيتَنيهاyou bestowed it on me بَرِيَّةًfree
مِنَfrom المَطلِdelay ماnot شيبَتwas mingled بِمَنٍّwith reminders of favors مُكَدِّرٍembittering
So I said, when you had bestowed it on me, free
of delay, untainted by galling reminders of favors:
أَبىrefused اللَهُGod أَنto يُسديbestow إِلَيناupon us صَنيعَةًa kindness
سِوىexcept الكُرَماءِthe generous الغُرِّthe illustrious آلُthe house of المُظَفَّرِal-Muzaffar
God would let none bestow a kindness upon us
save the generous, illustrious ones—the house of al-Muzaffar.
وَمَنand whoever يُخجِلُputs to shame السُحبَthe clouds المَواطِرَrain-pouring كَفُّهُhis palm
فَغَيرُso it is not بَديعٍunusual أَنthat يَجودَhe gives generously بِمِطَرِwith rain
And one whose palm shames the rain-pouring clouds—
it is no marvel that he should bestow rain.
وَمَنand whoever عُرِفَتwas known بِالعُرفِfor kindness وَالبَذلِand giving freely كَفُّهُhis palm
فَإِسداؤُهُso his bestowing المَعروفَkindness لَيسَis not بِمُنكَرِstrange
And one whose palm is known for kindness and giving—
his bestowing kindness is no strange thing.
