حَربيwar against me وَقَطَّعَand severed بِالجَفاthrough estrangement حَبليmy cord
Say, you two, to the one who, without cause, declared
War on me and severed my cord through estrangement:
أَورَدتَنيyou brought me to water وِردَthe watering place of السِقامِsickness فَلِمso why
حَلَّأتَنيyou drove me away عَنfrom بارِدِthe cool waters of الوَصلِunion
You brought me to sickness's watering place; why, then,
Did you drive me from the cool waters of union?
ياO قاتِليmy slayer فَاجهَدthen strive لِماfor what بِكَthrough you بيis in me
كَفّارَةًatonement لِجَريمَةِfor the crime of القَتلِkilling
O my slayer, seek, for what I suffer through you,
Atonement for the crime of killing.
فَلَقَدfor indeed جَعَلتُكَI have placed you مِنfrom حَرامِthe inviolability of دَميmy blood

For I have granted you, concerning my inviolable blood,
If you visit me, the fullest absolution.
ياO صاحِبيmy companion فيin كُلِّevery نائِبَةٍcalamity
وَمُشارِكيand my partner فيin الكُثرِplenty وَالقُلِّand scarcity
O my companion in every calamity,
And my partner in plenty and scarcity,

I adjure you by true affection: when
I am pillowed in a grave of sand,
وَنَوَيتُand I have chosen بِالبَيداءِin the wasteland مُنفَرِداًalone
نَأياًdistance عَنِfrom الخُلَطاءِcompanions وَالأَهلِand family
And, alone in the wasteland, I have chosen
Distance from companions and family,
فَأَذِلthen shed عَلىupon قَبريmy grave الدُموعَtears وَقُلand say
هَذاthis is صَريعُone slain by الأَعيُنِeyes النُجلِwide
Then shed tears upon my grave and say:
This is one slain by wide eyes.
