ياO مَنyou whom جَعَلناهُwe deemed him لِحاجَتِناfor our need
يا مَن جَعَلناهُ لِحاجَتِنا
أَهلاًworthy فَأَسلَمَناyet he consigned us إِلاto (apparently intended as إلى) الياسِdespair
أَهلاً فَأَسلَمَنا إِلا الياسِ
O you whom we deemed, for our need,
O you who we made for our need
worthy—yet you consigned us to despair.
Welcome, so we surrendered except to despair

Do not fear the harm satire brings to my

Fasting, so there is no harm upon you
إِنif تَسعَyou strive فيهاin it كانَwould be سَعيُكَyour striving مَقaccept- (beginning of مقبولاً)
إِن تَسعَ فيها كانَ سَعيُكَ مَق
بولاًعَلى-ed upon (completes مقبولاً, followed by على) العَينينِboth eyes وَالراسِand the head
بولاًعَلى العَينينِ وَالراسِ
If you strive to fulfill it, your efforts will be
If it is wide in it, your effort was
accepted upon both eyes and the head.
Acceptable to the eyes and head
أَوor لَمnot تُوَفَّقyou are granted success لِلقَضاءِin fulfilling لَهاit
أَو لَم تُوَفَّق لِلقَضاءِ لَها
كُنتَyou would be اِمرَءاًa man مِنamong جُملَةِthe body of الناسِpeople
كُنتَ اِمرَءاً مِن جُملَةِ الناسِ
Or, if you are not granted success in fulfilling it,
Or you were not enabled to accomplish it
you would be but a man among other people.
