Some people wronged you, O Ibn al-Khatib;
They wronged you, son of the preacher
they sought to burden your two hands with generosity.
They wronged by burdening your generous hands
فَأَنتَfor you أَقَلُّtoo low قَدراًin worth أَنto تُرَجّىbe looked to with hope

For you are too low in worth to be looked to
You are too noble that you be hoped
by a freeborn man, or to have relief drawn from you.
For free man or that comfort comes out of you

You take after the base Kishāḥiyya,
You inclined towards the villainy of villains
whose reputations among people have been cast down.
Who have in people the most blemished reputations
قَبيلٌa clan لاnot يُقادُis avenged لَهُfor it قَتلٌa killing
وَلاand not يَأسوheals الجِراحَthe wounds لَهُمfor them جِراحَهa wound
A clan whose slain go unavenged,
A tribe whose killing cannot be avenged
nor does a wound heal their wounds.
And wounds are not grievous wounds for them
وَأُمٌّand a mother لَمdid not يُحَصِّنَهاkeep her chaste حَصاناًas a chaste woman

And a mother not kept chaste
And a mother who was not protected by a protector
by your father—so she hatched you in promiscuity.
So your father copulated with her freely
أَتَتshe came بِكَwith you أَثقَلَthe heaviest الثَقَلينِthe two races: humans and jinn روحاًin spirit

She bore you, the heaviest soul among humans and jinn,
She gave birth to you, the heaviest in spirit
and the stingiest of them with whatever a palm possesses.
And the most stingy of what his comfort possessed
