O Ali, O son of the caliphs, and you who occupy

the lofty heights at the summit of glory,

take this, and hear from me a loyal friend's prayer,

sincere in his devotion to the utmost of his ability.

You, even if the rains should seek to rival you,

are more bountiful of hand and broader of reach.

    أَحسَنَ اللَهُ في عُلاكَ الدِفاعا

    You have never ceased to ward calamities off from us;

may God defend your exalted rank well.

And may the new guest bring you joy, and may

time ever see your command obeyed.

A bond of affection, ever growing between us, until

the days perfected it with a skillful hand.

Before it, people had never seen, on bright nights,

the sun in union with the crescent moon.

So live on, you both; may the envious never see your union

sundered, as long as the nights endure.
