No longer have I, in the love of fair women,
No longer in passion's folly delight,
Any hope, now that youth has passed.
Since the lads had their wantonness sated.
أَعرَضنَthey turned away عَنّيfrom me فَكُنتُand I was قِدماًformerly

They turned away from me; once I was
Turned from me, I was left out in the cold,
Among them a ruler whose commands were obeyed.
While they revelled in lust and depravity.

ماwhat لِأَخيfor a brother of الشَيبِgray hair وَالخَلاعَهand wantonness
I have stripped myself of youthful affectation;
I cast off my soul from this game -
What has a brother of gray hair to do with wantonness?
Too old for such sport is your brother.
أَنكَرنَthey disliked مِنّيin me شَيباًgray hair وَعُدماًand poverty

They disapproved of my gray hair and poverty,
They shunned me for age and for weakness,
And there is neither lovemaking nor merchandise.
With nought left to offer, no wares on display.
