غَزالٌa gazelle نَقَدْتُI paid in cash لهto him طاعتِيmy obedience
وعَجَّلْتُand I hastened للوَصْلِfor union ذاكthat السَّلَمْthe advance payment
To a gazelle I paid my obedience in cash,
A gazelle whom I gave my obedience
and hastened that advance payment for union.
And hastened the ladder for that reunion
وأقْسمتُand I swore لاno بُدَّescape مِنfrom وَصْلِهِunion with him
وبالهَجْرِand by estrangement والوَصْلِand union يأْتِيcomes القَسَمْthe oath
And I swore: I must be united with him;
I swore it's inevitable we unite
and by estrangement and union the oath is sworn.
By estrangement and reunion comes destiny

لَعَمْرِيby my life مُوَطِّئَةٌpreparatory لِلْقَسَمْto the oath
And the lām-shaped down upon his cheek
Blaming his cheek is useless
is, by my life, a prelude to the oath.
By my life, it only affirms our fate
