إنما هذه الحياةُ مَنامٌ

إنما هذه الحياةُ مَنامٌ

والأمانِي حُلْمٌ بها الْمَرْءُ صَبُّ

والأمانِي حُلْمٌ بها الْمَرْءُ صَبُّ

This life is nothing but a dream,

This life is but a slumber

And wishes are a dream; one is enamored of them.

And desires are a dream wherein man pours forth

فلهذا تأْتِي على العكسِ مِمَّا

فلهذا تأْتِي على العكسِ مِمَّا

كَرِهَ النَّاسُ دائماً وأحَبُّوا

كَرِهَ النَّاسُ دائماً وأحَبُّوا

Thus it unfolds contrary to what

Thus it oft comes contrary to that

People have always hated and loved.
