يُعْلِي مَقامَ المرءِ خِفَّةُ ظِلِّهِ

يُعْلِي مَقامَ المرءِ خِفَّةُ ظِلِّهِ

وترى الثَّقيلَ مُحَقَّراً مَمْلولاَ

وترى الثَّقيلَ مُحَقَّراً مَمْلولاَ

The lightness of a man's shadow raises his standing;

A man's status is raised by his forgiving nature

And you see the heavy bore belittled and found tiresome.

While the unforgiving man is despised and scorned

أوَ ما ترى المِيزانَ يُرْفَع كلَّما

أوَ ما ترى المِيزانَ يُرْفَع كلَّما

قد خَفَّ فاحْذَرْ أن تكون ثَقِيلاَ

قد خَفَّ فاحْذَرْ أن تكون ثَقِيلاَ

Do you not see the scale rise whenever

Do you not see that the scale is lifted whenever

It grows light? So beware of being heavy.

It is lightened? So beware of being unforgiving
