The flood tide after the ebb—they said that it
The tide after ebb, they said it comes
comes from the radiant, rising full moon.
From the rising full moon so bright
صَدَقُواthey spoke truly فبَدْرِيfor my full moon فيin مَطالِعِrisings حُسْنِهِhis beauty
صَدَقُوا فبَدْرِي في مَطالِعِ حُسْنِهِ

They spoke truly, for my full moon, as his beauty rises,
They spoke true, for my moon's rising beauty
has brought upon my eyelids the flood tide of my tears.
Has caused a tide of tears in my eyes tonight
