فأسْرعَso quickened فَتْكُهاtheir killing ونَماand grew جَواهَاthe burning anguish they cause
The arrows of his eyelids turned away from me;
The arrows of his eyelids turned away from me
So their killing quickened, and the anguish they caused grew.
So their slaughter was swift and their ardour grew
فيالَكِand oh, what ... you are! أسْهُماarrows تُصْمِىstrike dead الرَّمايَاthe targets

And ah, what arrows you are, striking targets dead
Oh if only arrows made archers deaf
When aimed at something other than them!
Whenever they aimed at anything but the target
