ياO صاحِfriend تَوَقَّguard yourself منagainst فَواتِmissing الفُرَصِopportunities
يا صاحِ تَوَقَّ من فَواتِ الفُرَصِ
لاnot تَهْنَأُis pleasant عِيشَةُthe life امْرِىءٍof a person ذِيhaving غصَصِchoking sorrows
لا تَهْنَأُ عِيشَةُ امْرِىءٍ ذِي غصَصِ
O friend, guard against letting opportunities slip away.
O friend, beware of missing opportunities,
The life of one beset by sorrows is not sweet.
The life of a grieved person is not blissful.
فالوُرْقfor the gray doves وإنand even if غَدَتْthey have come to be بعَيْشٍin a life رَغَدٍof ease
فالوُرْق وإن غَدَتْ بعَيْشٍ رَغَدٍ
تبْكيweep وتنُوحُand lament دائماًcontinually فيin الْقَفَصِthe cage
تبْكي وتنُوحُ دائماً في الْقَفَصِ
For the gray doves, though they have come to live in ease,
Even if the leaves live luxuriously,
weep and lament continually in the cage.
They always weep and wail in the cage.
