رعَى اللّهُ عَصْراً غاب عنِّي عَواذِلِي
بهduring it فَسرقْتُso I stole الوَصْلَunion فيin غَفْلةِheedlessness الدهرِTime
به فَسرقْتُ الوَصْلَ في غَفْلةِ الدهرِ
May God bless a time when my reproachers were absent from me;
God bless a time that passed me by when my friends were near
in it, I stole union while Time was heedless.
In it I stole a union in the heedlessness of fate
أصائِلُlate afternoons وَصْلٍunion بَرَّدتْcooled بنَسِيمِهاwith their breeze
أصائِلُ وَصْلٍ بَرَّدتْ بنَسِيمِها
منfrom الكَبِدِthe liver المَلْهوفِanguished هاجِرَةَnoonday heat الهَجْرِseparation
من الكَبِدِ المَلْهوفِ هاجِرَةَ الهَجْرِ
Afternoons of union cooled, with their breeze,
