قيلit was said فيin اسْمِthe name of السَّلامِPeace رُقْيَةُan incantation of رَاقٍa charmer
قيل في اسْمِ السَّلامِ رُقْيَةُ رَاقٍ
للأَفاعِيfor vipers قدindeed حَرّمْتهاhas forbidden it الأنامُhumankind
للأَفاعِي قد حَرّمْتها الأنامُ
It is said that the name 'Peace' holds a charmer's incantation
It is said that in the name of peace there is a soothing charm
for vipers—an incantation humankind has forbidden.
That makes snakes forbidden to people
وأناand I قدindeed رأيتُI have found رُقْيةَthe incantation against فَقْرِيmy poverty
وأنا قد رأيتُ رُقْيةَ فَقْرِي
حينwhen ألْقاكَI meet you أنto أقولَI say السَّلامُPeace
حين ألْقاكَ أن أقولَ السَّلامُ
And I have found the incantation against my poverty:
Yet I have seen the charm of my poverty
to say 'Peace' when I meet you.
When I met you and said "Peace"
