لَبَّى الرَّجا بتَباشِيرِ الْفَرَحْ
Indeed, a friend is one who, when you call upon him,
When you call a friend, he comes running
Answers your plea with glad tidings of joy.
With a smiling face and joyful tidings.
وإنand if تنَحْنَحَclears his throat الذيthe one whom دَعَوْتَهyou called upon
وإن تنَحْنَحَ الذي دَعَوْتَه
لِحاجَةٍfor a need مُلِمَّةٍpressing فقدthen he has indeed تَنَحturned away
لِحاجَةٍ مُلِمَّةٍ فقد تَنَح
And if he clears his throat—the one you called upon
But when you call upon one with a plea,
For a pressing need—then he has turned away.
And he turns away, he is no true friend.
