وكل هني من سواه منغص
I see honor from any but God turning into humiliation.
I see the glory of all save God fade,
And every delight from anyone but Him is marred.
And joy but His with grief alloyed.

Alas for the toil of a fair maiden who adorned herself for a blind man,
Alas! my days in vanity are laid,
And rose to dance for him in the darkness of night.
And nightly see I pleasures unenjoyed.

Hope not for love from this world's sons,
When prices rise, abstention makes them fall.
When interest sways, affection's bonds are loosed.
