I say in jest, while tawny wine has withheld
I say to frivolity and youthfulness you have denied
Pure delight, despite the libertine’s nose, now worn away:
Purity despite the spite of a despicable one being pardoned
أغابhas he been absent? إبْلِيسُIblis مِنfrom هذاthis المُصابِcalamity لناfor us
ماnot ذاكthat إلاَّexcept لِطُولِbecause of the length of العمرlife قدalready خَرِفَاhe has grown senile
Has Iblis absented himself from this calamity of ours?
The devil has been absent from this affliction of ours
It is only that, through his long life, he has grown senile.
That is only because he grew senile with old age
