I have confined my praises—and the confinement is mine—
My praises fall short, though the fault is mine,
to Taha, and confinement admits no extension.
For Taha, for whom praise has no end.
إذاif كانis الثَّناءُcommendation لهfor him جميلاًbeautiful
هوit الْحَمْدُthe praise الذيwhich فيin العُرْفِcustomary usage حَدُّواthey defined
If praise of him is beautiful,
If praising him is so beautiful,
it is the praise they have defined in customary usage.
Then praise is that which custom bounds.
ولمand not يُرَwas seen منهthan him أجْمَلُmore beautiful طَرْفa blink عَيْنٍof an eye
فليسso is not بِلائِقٍfitting لِسِوَاهfor anyone other than him حَمْدُpraise
And none more beautiful than he has been seen, even for an eye’s blink;
No fairer sight has been seen,
so praise is not fitting for anyone but him.
So praise befits none but him alone.
