وبِمُهْجتِي داءٌ دوائي ما ابْتَغَى
I find myself among a generation like a mangy hide.
I have become like tanned leather, patched,
And in my heart is an illness, my remedy unsought.
And a malady afflicts my brain whose remedy is not sought.

The hide is vermin-infested, so tanning it does no good,
The hide of the ox long soaked in tanning fluid is of no avail
until the two gatherers of tanning leaves return, so it may be tanned.
Until the tanner returns to tan it again.
