وكمand how often لاحappeared تَجْنِيسٌa pun بهاin it وهْوwhile it is تَنْجِيسُdefilement
Egypt's poetry is made foolish by its double meanings;
And many a pun has appeared in it, though it is defilement.
يقولونthey say فيin الألفاظِthe words مِنَّاfrom us حَلاوةٌsweetness
فقلتُso I said ولكنand yet ذاكthat حَشْوٌpadding وتَلْبِيسُand deception
They say, "There is sweetness in our words."
So I said, "But that is padding and deception."
