إذاwhen شابturns gray شَعْرُthe hair المَرْءِof a man قَلَّdwindles سُرورُهhis joy
وزَارتْهand visit him مِنfrom وَفْدِthe delegation of الهمومِcares المَصائبُcalamities
When a man's hair turns gray, his joy dwindles,
And calamities visit him from the delegation of cares;
وشَابَand taints قَذَىthe grit of الأكْدارِtroubles صَفْوَthe clarity of حَياتِهِhis life
فمِنso for أجْلِthe sake of هذاthis قِيلit was said للمَرْءِof a man شائبُgray-haired
And the grit of troubles clouds the clarity of his life—
So for this reason a man is called “gray-haired.”
