تعلَّقclung قلبيmy heart فيin الغرامِpassionate love بصُدْغِهِto his temple-lock
تعلَّق قلبي في الغرامِ بصُدْغِهِ
فعَطْفةُfor the curve of ذاكthat الصُّدْغِthe temple-lock وَقْفةُthe stance of خايِرِone who falters
فعَطْفةُ ذاك الصُّدْغِ وَقْفةُ خايِرِ
My heart clung in passion to his temple-lock;
For that lock’s curve is the stance of one who falters.
تعلَّقhung suspended قلبيmy heart ليسdoes not يدْرِيknow قَرارَهُits resting place
تعلَّق قلبي ليس يدْرِي قَرارَهُ
كأنّas though فؤادِيmy heart فيin مَخالِبِthe talons of طائِرِa bird
كأنّ فؤادِي في مَخالِبِ طائِرِ
My heart hung suspended, not knowing its resting place,
As though my heart were in the talons of a bird.
