Upon the river lay a breeze-wrought coat of mail; its bubbles

were its rings when its downpour shot arrows.

The swords of India grow blunt in my beloved's glance,

and so grow sweet—yet a sword brings torment when blunt.

When my resolves demand that I face death,

I put them off until I meet those worthy of them.

Then my patient endurance settles every debt my hopes owe,

as a man of means pays, one who has never known delay.

And even if I become the house's mat, my sustenance visits me,

so I catch from the frying pan whatever my wishes crave.
