تَغافَلْTurn a blind eye إذاif رُمْتَyou seek وُدَّaffection الورَىhumankind
تَغافَلْ إذا رُمْتَ وُدَّ الورَى
يدُومit endures فتُصْبحُand so you become لِلْعِزِّto honor جارَاa neighbor
يدُوم فتُصْبحُ لِلْعِزِّ جارَا
Turn a blind eye if you wish people's affection
to endure, and so become a neighbor to honor.
زِمامُthe reins المُروءةِnoble character فيin كَفِّthe palm of مَنone who
زِمامُ المُروءةِ في كَفِّ مَن
تَغافُلَهhis feigned unawareness يمْتطِيhe rides حيثُwherever سَارَاhe goes
تَغافُلَه يمْتطِي حيثُ سَارَا
The reins of noble character are in the hand of one
who rides his feigned unawareness wherever he goes.
