وكمand how many فِتْيةٍyoung men نَجَّيْتُI saved منfrom نارthe fire of فِتْنَةٍstrife
وكم فِتْيةٍ نَجَّيْتُ من نار فِتْنَةٍ
وأنْقَذْتُهمand I rescued them منfrom ظُلْمةِthe darkness of الحَدَثانِthe vicissitudes of time
وأنْقَذْتُهم من ظُلْمةِ الحَدَثانِ
And how many young men I have saved from the fire of strife,
How many youths have I saved from fiery trials
and rescued from the darkness of adversity!
And rescued them from the darkness of passion
أضاعُواthey disregarded حُقوقِيmy rights ثمthen غُرُّواthey were deluded بِذِلَّتِيby my abasement
أضاعُوا حُقوقِي ثم غُرُّوا بِذِلَّتِي
كأنِّيas though I were لديْهمin their eyes خالدُKhalid بنson of سِنانِSinan
كأنِّي لديْهم خالدُ بن سِنانِ
They disregarded my rights, then were deluded by my abasement,
They denied me my rights, then were deceived by my humility
as though, in their eyes, I were Khalid ibn Sinan.
As if to them I were Khalid ibn Sinan
